Economic Outlook Conference 2021
Join us for the 2021 Wheeling Area Economic Outlook Conference Series!
Schedule of Events:
In part one of the event, we’ll focus on the economic climate with reports from David McKinley of McKinley Carter Wealth Services on the outlook for national and global economies and John Deskins of the WVU Bureau of Business and Economic Research for an update and outlook for the state’s economic activity.
Then we’ll turn to a panel discussion with Mitch Carmichael, Cabinet Secretary for Economic Development, and innovative entrepreneurs, Brian Joseph of Touchstone Research and Dominick Cerrone of Cerrone & Associates, to share their perspectives on the outlook for our region.
Themes of the discussion will include:
- Coming out of the CV19 environment, what regions of the state and businesses are making the most of opportunities within emerging industries and changes to previously held standards for business?
Good examples include new investments in aerospace (making better use of our regional airports and institutions of higher learning) and technology (supporting accelerated adoption here and abroad)
- How are the state, counties, and cities making the most of government stimulus money (CARES Act, American Recovery Plan, and others) to create a more attractive economic climate for new and existing businesses to thrive?
Good examples include investments in water and sewer lines (making rural areas more attractive for commercial and residential real estate development) as well as broadband (connecting rural areas with high speed internet)
